I've just spent a couple of weeks building a new binding router jig. Harry Fleishman's original parallelogram mounting, then Don William's lazy susan/drawer slide system and finally Dave White's inspired addition of the second lazy susan to mount the trimmer (for those of us that like to use a downcut bit and a trimmer mounted guide). These were all developments of shear genius which have been generously shares 'gratis' with the community. So, Harry/Don/Dave I say thankyou. For three years I lived in Isaac Newton's rooms at Trinity College, Cambridge. Slept in the same bedroom as him, worked in the same study as him. I felt privileged to be in the 'company' of such greatness. Newton had a saying that we were just "Standing on the shoulders of giants". Well, Harry/Don/Dave, that's you. Colin |

I appreciate, greatly, the binding jig theme...but I want to hear more about your time at Trinity. To sleep in the same bedroom as Newton...the question would be, were you able to ACTUALLY sleep? That's just awesome. How about a short write up about it in the off-topic forum? |

I'll put some pictures up when I'm binding the guitar, should be next week hopefully, I've got the jig stacked away in my loft now, it takes up too much space in my small shop so will only come out when I need to bind. Fillipo, look at Don's and Dave's web sites, they have good building instructions there, those are the ones I followed. Bill, I'll PM you. Dave, I mean it, without your modification, this jig just wouldn't have worked for me. Colin |

I wanna see this jig. I hope you are getting ready to bind something soon. Why not just make a practice guitar out of 3/4 inch OSB and bind that? (with pics of course) |

In these days where society demands instant gratification, I'm afraid you'll all just have to wait. It's unbolted and in my loft as I said. The basic jig is just the normal William's jig that we all know and the additional part is the same as Dave White posted here some time ago and is available on his site here: Dave White mounting I should be binding a guitar next week or so. The idea of the original post wasn't to show off my workmanship but simply to thank Don and Dave for their great innovations. Colin |
